Student leadership

At our Lasallian school, we believe that true leadership is rooted in service. Inspired by the example of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, we strive to form young people who lead with compassion, humility, and a genuine commitment to the common good. Here, students are empowered to recognise their unique gifts and use them in service to others—whether in the classroom, within the community, or across the world. By nurturing servant leaders grounded in faith, integrity, and respect, we prepare our students not only for academic success, but for a lifelong vocation of making a meaningful and hopeful difference in the lives of others.

True and authentic leadership responsibility can have a long lasting positive impact upon young people: providing holistic development, strong formation, building ambition and aspiration whilst also being a force for positive change across our community. that is why we are so keen to develop genuine leadership opportunities throughout a student's Lasallian school journey.

These opportunities are highlighted below in order of access during a student's school life:

Form Representative

At De La Salle, each form group elects a Form Representative who plays an important role in promoting student voice across the school. These representatives act as a bridge between students and staff, gathering feedback, ideas, and concerns from their peers and sharing them at student council meetings. Their role ensures that every student has the opportunity to contribute to decisions that shape school life, fostering a sense of inclusion and responsibility. By encouraging communication and collaboration, Form Representatives help create a positive and supportive environment that reflects the values of our Lasallian community.

SVP Youth

SVP is open to all years, inspired by the work of St Vincent De Paul and St John Baptist De La Salle, these students focus on finding the needs in our locality and being so moved by what they find that they feel called to action. This is the initial step for students to take when they want to explore their role in the world. All initiatives are completely student-led, empowering all students from Year 7 to be protagonists in their community and active citizens.

Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP)

MVP is a peer mentoring programme which offers an education-based preventative model to address some of the attitudes, values and beliefs that underpin gender-based violence and violence in general. We use the bystander approach to explore gender-based violence and bully behaviour. It's not about trying to create experts in violence prevention but to provide a peer education model that can be sustained within the school setting and wider learning community. This is open to our students to apply for from the end of Year 9 and to deliver their work whilst in Year 10.

1719 Society

The 1719 Society is made up of our Year 11 student leaders, including the Head Student's and their deputies. This prestigious group represents the highest level of student leadership within our Lasallian community. Members of the 1719 Society act as role models for younger students, lead whole-school initiatives, and ensure that student voice is heard at the most senior level. The society is organised into key strands: Catholic Life, Communications, and Events, with each strand focusing on enriching school life and promoting our values. In addition, the 1719 Society oversees the prefect team, ensuring involvement and responsibility across the school. Through their leadership, the 1719 Society inspires others to live out the Lasallian mission in everyday school life.

The name refers to the year 1719 — the year when St John Baptist de La Salle (founder of the Lasallian educational tradition) died. Choosing that year as the name of the Society is symbolic: it reminds members constantly of the legacy they inherit — the mission, values, and spirit of De La Salle — inspiring them to lead as he did, with service, humility and commitment.
