Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At De La Salle School, we are proud to be an inclusive and supportive community where every student is valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential.
A student is identified as having Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) when they require support that is additional to, or different from, the high-quality teaching typically provided to students of the same age.
Our Learning Support Team
We have a dedicated and experienced team who work together to ensure that every student receives the support they need to thrive. Our team includes:
- SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator)
- Thrive Provision Teachers
- Higher Level Teaching Assistant
- Senior Learning Assistants
- Team of Learning Assistants
- Whole Staff Teaching Team, all committed to providing excellent education and care for every student
Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) Resourced Provision
De La Salle School is proud to host a specialist ASC Resourced Provision for students on the autistic spectrum who are of KS3/4 mainstream ability.
Placements are made through the Special School Panel, in consultation with the school. Students in the ASC Provision are fully registered members of De La Salle School and belong to their year group, taking part in school life and learning alongside their peers.
Thrive
Thrive is a Key Stage 3 provision designed to support learners who may benefit from additional assistance in consolidating gaps from Key Stage 2. The curriculum within Thrive is carefully adapted to address these gaps and to enhance each student’s transition into KS3 learning at a pace that is right for them.
Students access Thrive for approximately 50% of their timetable, with the remainder of their learning taking place in mainstream lessons. This approach ensures that students continue to engage with their year group and the wider KS3 curriculum, promoting inclusion while receiving targeted support to build confidence and skills.
The Enrichment Area
Our Learning Support Department are based within the Enrichment Area of the school — a welcoming and supportive space that is home to our Thrive classrooms, Sensory Room, Hygiene Suite, Breakout Space and dedicated kitchen that is used as part of ASDAN.
Students can take part in a range of enrichment activities designed to build confidence, social skills, and friendships, including:
- Games and Social Activities
- Weekly Bingo
- Reading Corner
Our friendly staff are always on hand to offer guidance, encouragement, and supervision. We can always look for quieter spaces within our area if students would prefer some time alone to reset.
