Design and Technology

Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject.  Pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts.

They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw upon disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.  Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.

De La Salle is keen to let pupils enjoy the practical nature of design technology, whilst knowledge-based learning is key to helping them to become higher level learners.  Food and nutrition, graphics and resistant materials are offered as GCSE option choices.

The design and technology learning area aims to:

  • Promote creativity and imagination
  • Encourage pupils to consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values
  • Develop a critical understanding of the impact of design and technology on daily life and the wider world
