Brother Bob, Superior General of the Lasallian mission

On Thursday we welcomed a very special visitor to the school. As part of a pastoral tour of the Lasallian schools in Europe, our Superior General, Br Bob Schieler came to look around. He was accompanied by the Provincial, Br Laurence Hughes, and by Br Aidan who is the General Councillor. During the visit Br Bob was keen to meet staff, students and governors to find out more about how we deliver a Lasallian education here in St Helens.

Br Bob was particularly impressed by the confidence and depth of understanding our students had about our shared heritage and described the school as having “a tangible sense of warmth, community and compassion.” After a tour of the school with our Head Girl, Lauren and Head Boy, Joseph, our visitors spoke to many staff who joined them for refreshments at break. The conversations ranged from the various challenges we face delivering faith education to a detailed discussion of American football between Br Bob and Mr Leighton!

The staff session was followed by a meeting with students from all year groups who shared their experiences and asked some interesting questions of our visitors, finding out more about religious life and the day to day experience of being in Br Bob’s position. The visit was particularly moving for Br Aidan who taught at West Park for many years and had some very fond memories of the school.
